Sweeney Todd Part 22/27: Not While I'm Around / Bakehouse
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street 1982 Tour Cast, starring Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett and George Hearn as Sweeney Todd. Part 22 includes "Not While I'm Around" and a scene in the bakehouse. Toby (Ken Jennings) approaches Mrs. Lovett (Angela Lansbury) while Sweeney (George Hearn) is away delivering his letter and tells her, first obliquely and eventually directly, that he believes Sweeney is deceiving her and is up to no good. Of course, Mrs. Lovett is the mastermind behind all the operations, so she tries to calm Toby down. Unfortunately, she attempts to do so with a bit of candy from her purse, which you may remember was taken off the dead Pirelli's body. Toby, though rather slow, doesn't fail to realise this, and the situation only worsens when Mrs. Lovett hastily claims that Sweeney gave her the purse. Toby is certain now that Sweeney is nothing but bad, and Mrs. Lovett realises that the boy has become a threat to her vision of future prosperity and married life. Forced to choose between a boy willing to die to protect her and a man who thinks only of revenge, she chooses the latter. I am getting really long-winded with these descriptions.
